Shakespeare and Company: Monday, July 30th, Mid-summers Night Dream

We arrive at Blantyre in the late afternoon. From the moment we enter the gates we know that we will be at home here. We unpack and relax in the room, or explore the hotel for a few moments before going down to the wine cellars to meet the other members of our Concierge party. A private wine tasting has been arranged with Monsieur Lucien Chevalier, Blantyre’s sommelier. A wonderful opportunity to learn about special wines from a master. Wine is both a stimulant and a relaxant and we feel both as we wend our way to the dining room for dinner.

The dining room is exquisite and the settings are formal. Jacket and tie are required. The conversation will be wise ranging but the common denominator at the table is cars.

A beautiful day to strech the legs of our favorite touring car. A comfortable 35 mile ride due north to North Adams and we can have lunch while touring the Musem of Contempory Art (MoCA) in North Adams. This is the country’s largest center of contemporary art and the outside installations are impressive.

If you have the time and you are interested in the history of the area, skip over to the North Adams Museum of History and Science where 25 exhibits tell the story. Did you know that Moby Dick was written in Pittsfield Mass. Herman Melville lived in Pittsfield and his home “Arrowhead” is today a museum. Maybe there is time for a roundabout route back to Blantyre and an opportunity to enjoy some sweeper at a legal speed limit. Let Concierge! Touring plan such a route for you.

This evening we are going to dine in town then be driven over to the Globe Theatre where Shakespeare and Co. are putting on “A Midsummers Night Dream”, Shakespeare’s wonderful comedy-fantasy. This is the Shakespeare for those who don’t know or even like Shakespeare. And for those who do…it never tires. It is a memorable experience at the end of a memorable day.
